JUGGLES FASHION AND DANCE effortlessly
The M.I.K Family is a German-based dance crew with deep connections to Ghana. Founded in Berlin in 2006 by Prince Ofori, they are known for their expertise in Krump, a highly energetic and expressive street dance style. The group’s name M.I.K Family, is loosely translated as “Mindset Is Key,” a strong belief the group members hold. Ever since winning the first German Krump Championship in 2006, the group has grown to include members Isaac Kyere, Richmond Milewsky, Dennis Kyere, Gifty Lartey and Hermes Simao. Their street moniker, "Monsters in Krump," symbolizes inner strength and empowerment, which they aim to channel through their dynamic performances.
Over the years, the M.I.K Family has grown into more than just a dance crew—they have gradually transitioned into being quite influential in the fashion space. Fashion plays an important role in propelling the visual appeal of dance through how modern age dancers dress be it choreographing a TikTok trend, music video, or making an appearance on the red carpet. For the trio Isaac Kyere, Dennis Kyere and Hermes Simao, juggling dance and fashion is something crucial to the M.I.K brand.
The social media profiles of these three are literal eye candy; rocking pieces from indigenous African brands like the Smallgod brand and FREE THE YOUTH, to others like MCM, Givenchy, Versace and Louis Vuitton. They have also graced the red carpet of some of the notable fashion weeks like the New York Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.
This blend of fashion and dance ultimately creates a dynamic visual language that enhances the audience's connection to the performance by creating a synergy between movement and style. It enhances the storytelling aspect of dance, creating a full sensory experience for the audience. Costume choices can reflect the mood, culture, or time period of a performance, adding depth to the choreography. For instance, vibrant, fluid outfits highlight movement in African dance styles, while sleek, modern designs might complement contemporary forms like Krump or Hip-Hop.
Whether it is creating a viral trend for TikTok with 1/3 of the HipHop trio Migos or showing up on the red carpet of Pharrell’s LV show in Paris, the M.I.K always finds a way create excitement with their delectable style.
